Yoga Child's Pose

Let’s face it. Every sunrise puts us another day older. But yoga holds the power for beginners and experts alike to age gracefully and overcome physical and mental barriers.

So come, find your balance, silence your thoughts (and your ringer) and find peace in your mind for an hour — and prepare to be amazed at what your body and mind can do. You’ll find there are no mistakes in my classes. No failures. No competition. Just an opportunity to grow and learn and make each day better than the next.

About

ABOUT

I began my yoga journey in 2007 and immediately felt yoga’s power of self-healing, self-empowerment and self-realization. Then in 2014, I committed to expanding my journey by continuing my yoga education and sharing it with others. I received my teacher certification in 2014 from Beloved Yoga in Reston, Va. and became a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) through the Yoga Alliance. I’ve earned my 500 RYT credential, which means I’ve completed a 500-hour training program that focuses on studying anatomy, developing a deeper understanding of yoga postures, learning how to help students experience a transformation through yoga, and more.

My goal for myself and for you is simple: to leave each practice feeling balanced on the inside and out, ready to tackle the rest of your day with a feeling of empowerment and peace. But I also love to challenge you, finding ways to elevate your practice while maintaining a safe environment (both physically and mentally).

The beauty of each of the classes at Oorja Yoga is that I welcome every skill level. But if I’m being honest, I love seeing brand-new yogis of all ages find their center and strength in my classes.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Her yoga classes are an experience that generously illustrate what kinesthetic connection should and can be.

It’s no exaggeration to say there are moments of surprise and magic in every practice, and it’s her love for what she does that makes her a truly worthy — yet more importantly, a humble — guide for anyone seeking a moment of enlightenment (or just a light moment) in the midst of their day!

what people say

I have enjoyed this yoga class with Sonia for over the last 1½ years. I feel so much better, have better balance, and even have less back pain as a result of these classes. Learning to breathe properly has helped with any stress I may encounter in my daily life. Sonia never makes you feel bad about your limitations. She always gives you options for all her exercises. As a senior, stretching is essential. To sum it up, the best recommendation I can give is that I actually go to her classes 2-3 times a week, every week. In order to make that kind of commitment, a person must really enjoy their instructor, as well as their program.
